Second Semester Final: Show what you know

A final exam is an opportunity to show what you know, a chance to prove to yourself and others that you have learned, and that you are capable of meeting expectations.

Your 9th grade English teachers designed this test almost entirely around things you have already read, tasks you have already done, and skills you've had lots of practice with.

It is not meant to be hard, but it will require your concentration and critical thinking as you make the best selection for each question.

The test includes 33 multiple choice questions and several short answer responses. At the end of the test you will find some reflection questions. After you submit your test you will see a link to complete the course evaluation. 

I've enjoyed teaching you this year and I hope you'll come back and say hello next year.

Last class before finals!

Welcome to our last class. It's time to reflect, share, and celebrate the things we have learned this year. 

• I'll be here at lunch if you need to do any last minute work. 
• Today is the last day to request re-grades. I'll process those this weekend so you can know what your grade is going into the final.

Studying for the final? Here are some tips. 

1. Review your Comparative Analysis essay for "The Cask of Amontillado" and The Night of the Hunter. There will be questions about these two works, as well as how the writer/director used various stylistic techniques.
2. Review the articles from the Extreme Sports unit. These should be in your Google Drive. The exam will include passages from these articles with multiple choice questions. 
3. Review the articles from the Academic Honesty unit. These should also be in your Google Drive. The exam will include passages from these articles with multiple choice questions.
4. Review the literary terms we used throughout the year: diction, irony (all three kinds), theme, sensory details, figurative language etc.
5. Review the rhetorical terms we used throughout the year (ethos, pathos, logos, etc.) 
6. Review the format for writing a Rhetorical Precis summary paragraph.

Book review and textbook return

Goal: Review of book #12 and textbook return.

Review of Book #12: 
It is due today. I gave you time to start it on Monday. I reminded you to work on it Tuesday and Wednesday. You have this whole period to finish it.

Book Recommendation Slide:
Most of you are done with this.
Be sure you left me clear instructions in the slide notes about what to do with your name.

Project Presentations: 
A few groups did not get to present yesterday due to time.
If your group did not present I'll call you up to see me and show me your evidence.

Textbook Return:
When I tell you too we will all go down to return books.
Check your books to remove notes, writing, etc.

Project reflection: 

Yes, I know you may not be completely finished, but I want you to do your PROJECT REFLECTION today anyway. 

Tomorrow you will present your project:
Each group will get up for a few minutes to explain the project you did and how it went.
Be prepared to show evidence that your project reached your audience. 
If your evidence is screenshots or pictures it is best to put them on slides and share those slides with me before class.

Congratulations! You made it to the last full week of 9th grade. We have a lot to do this week because we only see you one day next week for your final. Here is a run down of what to expect this week.

Monday: 
Start your review of book #12. You can write the first paragraph, probably more even if you haven't quite finished it yet.
Review book recommendation slides. Is your's done?
Work on academic honesty projects.
Study guide for the final. 

Tuesday:
You will turn in your academic honesty project, if it is ready.
You will reflect on your work on the project.

Wednesday: 
You present your academic honesty project. Just get up and show us what you did and explain a little about your project. If you have evidence that your project reached your audience be sure to have that ready. If you have a partner in another class you will present the project in your period and he/she will also present the project to his/her period.

Thursday: 
Finish your review of book #12 if you haven't already.
Textbook return. Bring all your books for all your classes, unless you need to keep one to study for a final. That book is due the day of the final.
Get your locker info from the library or the counseling secretary if you lost it.

Friday: 
Closing activity.
Last day to request a regrade on major second semester writing assignments.
