Rhetorical Precis Retake

Can I retake the precis assessment we did on 12/20?

On 12/20 you wrote a rhetorical precis in class. Some of you have asked me if you can "retake" take assessment. Yes, you can, but there are a few requirements.

Prepare for your retake:
1. Take a good look at the precis you wrote on 12/20. What did you do correctly in that precis? What could you have done better? (Hang on to this original writing.)

2. Re-write that precis and improve it.

3. When you think it's fabulous, bring your original and your re-write to your teacher for further feedback or approval.

4. IF your teacher approves your re-write, you can prepare to retake your precis assessment. (Your teacher may ask you to do further work on the re-write before you are ready for a re-take.)

Re-take procedure:
1. Read a different article. (You need to write your precis retake on an article from THIS LIST, but not the one you wrote about on 12/20. (See possible sources for your third article.)

2. Ask for an advisory pass or come after school to retake your precis assessment. (You can not retake the assessment during class because you'll be missing something you probably need to be here for. See the chart by the door for dates you can come after school.)

3. You must bring your original precis from 12/20. The one we graded. We need that to verify that you are writing about a different article this time.

4. Your grade on the retake will replace your current grade in PS.

Absent on 12/20?

  • If you missed the original precis assessment then you have a zero and you need to make it up.
  • Request an advisory pass or come after school.
  • Be sure you have read the article you will be writing about before you come to make up your assessment.

Keep trying:
You can go through this process multiple times if you need to until you master this.
There is a precis to write on your first semester final.
All retakes must be complete by 1/22 so that semester grades can be finalized.

What does my score mean anyway?
