1. Reading Progress Update: Complete the FORM.

2. Project Proposal: (You may have started this on Friday.)

• Once you/your team, have your project elements in mind it is time for you to start working on your project proposal. 
• When you write a proposal you are trying to convince others (and yourself) that your project is worth doing. 
• A proposal helps you think through all of the parts of the project. If you are working as a team, the proposal becomes a document that shows what you agreed to do.

1. Get your copy of the PROJECT PROPOSAL TEMPLATE, be sure to click "use template."
2. Follow the directions on the top of the document to share it with your group and Mrs. R.
3. Complete the proposal by responding to the questions listed.
4. Your finished proposal will be reviewed/graded during class on Thursday 5/31 (or 6/1 for period 2) when your group meets with Mrs. R. (There will not be regrades. Be sure your proposal is complete on time.)

1. Essay revisions and regrade requests.
3. Book recommendation slide. (See Google Classroom if you're not sure what this is.)

Initial ideas and starting your project proposal

Goal: Project planning and beginning your project proposal.

Initial Ideas: 

• Before you go too far with your academic honesty project, I'd like to know what you think you are planning to do. 
• You may work alone or with a team of up to two other people. 
• The other people can be in another period of my class, but that means you'll need to spend more time meeting with them outside of class. That will make the project more challenging, but it is up to you. 
• Together you will complete the INITIAL IDEAS FORM today. 

Project Proposal:

Reading Inventory and Book Recommendations

Goals: District reading inventory assessment.

• Today we take a reading inventory assessment. 
• It probably won't take you the whole period (it's a block day after all), so you will have some time to catch up on other work when you finish.
• It will give us valuable data about how you read.
• This test can qualify you for some bonus points if you exceed your previous score. (More about that in class.)

START HERE
(If you are absent don't try to take this test at home.)

Book Recommendation Slide:

• What's your favorite book that you read this year? 
• You are going to make a recommendation page for that book. 
• Your page will be a slide. 
• Go to Google Classroom and look for a new assignment there. Use the slide number that matches your assigned computer number. (Don't edit other sides. I can see who did what in the revision history.)
• I'll even give you a grade for it. Good slide=good grade. 

Catch Up: 
Is your review of book #11 done? (We grade those today.)
Do you need to revise and request a regrade on another essay from this semester?

Block Day: Lots to do

Goals: Write a book review that includes some complex sentence structures, review our survey data further, and preview our final project.

Grammar lesson / Review of Book #11: 

• One of the things that makes plagiarism so easy to spot, is that adult writers use more complex sentence structure than 9th grade students do. 
• Today you'll use some mentor sentences to make your review of book #11 sound older and more mature. 

1. Include a compound sentence with a "who" phrase. Separate your "who" phrase with commas.

Example: Harry Potter, who was a wizard, attended Hogwarts, and later worked for The Ministry of Magic. 

2. Include a "though" statement.

Frame: Though this book was ____________, I still enjoyed it because_____________. 

Write your review of Book #11 in your Book Review doc. Use the normal, four paragraph, book review structure. 

Looking at our data: 

• Last week we looked at the slides that held the data from our academic honesty survey. 
• Open those slides. Look through that data again. "Read" those graphs. 
• Which slides have the most important data? 
• Use the slide sorter to move those slides to the top. (I'll show you.)
• Use the slide notes section to write about what you think that graph is showing. 
• When you are ready complete THIS FORM.

Article Jigsaw (part 2) and looking at our data

Goals: Explaining the article you read yesterday for discussion about issues of academic honesty. Looking at our own data.

Agenda:

Yesterday: 

• You read and discussed your assigned article. 
• Be sure you can talk about: 

1. A brief summary of the article including the author's position. 
2. Several important details, including any that seemed new or surprising. 
3. Any issues or disagreements you have with the author's position or data.
